Ode to a Cupcake

 

Good cupcakes are made for bad days.

Oh sure- cupcakes fill in at birthday parties and bridal showers, but truth be known- the cupcake's greatest purpose in life is to lull the suffering into a sugary haze of temporary exhilaration.

Today was one of those days I made a mad dash to Rise- my local cupcake hot spot! Not only do they make the most deeee-lish cupcakes around, they also use cage-free eggs and local dairies.

So without further ado I give you:

 

"Ode to a Cupcake"

Oh gourmet cupcake

In your fancy boutique case

Lulu lemon, red velvet, chocolate bliss

All on doilies of paper lace

Your creamy waves of buttery icing

Atop a fluffy cake so sweet

I cannot resist your Siren call

You sinfully addictive treat!

Paired with low fat milk

Placed upon an antique plate

My dear gourmet cupcake ball

You must now meet your fate :)

Oh Suki I dream of European pastries!!! I can't imagine there's no good fairy cakes over there. If you don't mind I think I will call them fairy cakes from now on. And I think we should talk Ashlie into making them for us! :)

Bravo!! not only am I a HUGE fan of cupcakes as you already know, but this fun and playful poem just says everything I think of when I bite into a sweet confection that warms my heart.

@suki something about the US and their cupcakes... we adore them and make them the best of the best. I hope someday you can have one cause they are hard to duplicate :)

Those pictures of cupcakes look dee-lish indeed!

Funnily enough I don't think I've ever tasted a truly great cupcake. I've had a lot of lovely "fairy cakes" - which is what cupcakes used to be when I was little. Basically the same but with different, thinner (non-butter) icing. I've been wondering where I could find a cupcake that would inspire the feelings in your ode... maybe I should just make some myself!
